Line and Shape
In photo 4, I photographed black headphones on a white table. When I took the picture, I was close to the headphones. I also took the photo mostly with a straight on point of view but my point of view was also slightly above the headphones. My photograph was horizontal so I could included as much as the headphones as possible. When taking this photograph, I considered the rule of thirds. I made sure that the volume adjuster part of the headphones was by the lower left corner. Also, the wires intersected mainly by the top right corner. This photo also leads the viewer's eyes through the work. Your eye starts at the bottom left corner where the volume adjuster is and follows the path of the wires as the wires move deeper into the picture.
Pattern and Texture
My best photo is photo 1. When I took this photo, I was very close to the carpet. I went up close so the viewer could clearly see the texture of the carpet. When I took this photo, I took it from above the carpet because the carpet was on the ground. My photograph is cropped so it is vertical. This way, you can see how the pattern continues from the bottom to the top. My photograph doesn't really follow the rule of thirds. It doesn't because the pattern on the carpet keeps repeating. Therefore, when you look at the grid of the rule of thirds, the pattern follows along the lines of the grid. However, the pattern also continues along different lines that don't follow the rule of thirds. So the photograph in some parts of the picture follows the rule of thirds but it other parts it does not. This photo is an example of pattern and texture. It shows pattern in the design of the carpet. There are diamonds on the carpet separated by dots and this pattern repeats throughout the photograph. It also shows texture. Since I took this photo close to the object, the viewer can clearly see the fuzz, threads, and material of the carpet.
Photo 3 is the best example of a properly exposed photo. This photo has black and white vales that range from very dark to very light. In each of the small diamonds on the sewer cover, half of each diamond is very dark and black. Then, a quarter of each diamond is grey and has light and dark values. Then, the last quarter of each diamond is very light, having a lot of white values in it. You can especially see the range of values in the diamonds in the diamonds in the front of the photo.
