Tangled in the Rhythm
This photo was selected because it follows the rule of thirds. The volume controller part of the headphones are on the left of the image and the wires cross in various places that are on the rule of thirds grid. Also, compositionally, this photo shows leading lines. The lines start in the bottom left of the photo and they lead the viewers' eyes throughout the photo, deeper and deeper into it, as they follow the wires. Technically, the light is coming form above, from ceiling light. This light then shines down and lights up the whole image. Also, this photo has a shallow depth of field, with a f-stop of 2.2. This blurs the back of the image while keeping the foreground in focus. The mood and meaning this image creates is that sometimes things are tangled and messy. The wire starts off relatively straight and then curves, tangles, and gets all mixed up. Sometimes things start off smooth, but can get messy along the way.

Hollow Heart
This image was selected because it has compositional aspects of complimentary space. The eye fits perfectly in between the ridges of the tree. The space fits the eye perfectly and thus complements it. Also, the lines complement each other. A line on the tree follows the same path of the edge of the nose. It shows how the tree and face fit together. Technically, when taking the portrait, the light was shining onto the right side of her face and thus illuminated that side of her face. Another technical aspect is how the images were manipulated. I placed the portrait on top of the tree image and then zoomed in the portrait until the eye fit between two ridges and the nose and line of the tree complimented each other. The opacity of the portrait was 50%. The meaning of the image is that the person feels hollow inside, like a tree. She appears tough outside, which is resembled by her bark exterior, but inside she feels hollow and faded, as she blends into the tree.

Fire and Ice
This image is from the painting with light assignment. Compositionally, negative space was created by this image. The purple lights created diamonds and rectangles as the light was thrown around. The orange light also created some small negative space like rectangles and ovals. The lines also contrast each other compositionally. The purple lines are thicker and there are six in a row. They take over a larger space because there are six lights. The orange lights are thinner and there was only one light so it created thinner lines and took up a smaller space. Technically, this image has a slow shutter speed of 4.0 sec. This allowed the lights' movement to be captured by the camera. Also, the lighting of the room affected the technical aspects of this image. All of the lights in the room were shut off, the shades were shut, and the windows were covered with black paper. Also, a black backdrop was used to make the background even darker. This image communicates fire vs. ice. The cool, cold purple lights are fighting against the hot, fire orange lights. It's almost as they convey a battle between fire and ice.

Vote for Pedro
"Vote for Pedro" was selected because compositionally, the point of view was head on so most of the person was inside the frame. Also, compositionally, framing was involved because the distance and point of view was factored to capture most of the person in the frame. Technically, the light was shining from the right and thus illuminated the right side of his face. Only half his face was illuminated this way. The ISO was also on 400 because there was already a lot of light from the lighting hitting his face. This image also conveys a humorous mood. The person is dressed as Napoleon Dynamite to create humor in the image.

Checkmate
"Checkmate" was chosen due to its compositionally aspects like the depth of the image. The foreground is in focus, the middleground is kinda blurry, and the background is blurry. Also, a pattern was used. The pattern went knight, rook, knight, and rook. Another pattern was that it went white piece, black piece, white piece, and black piece. Technical aspects include that a shallow depth of field was used to create a focused foreground, somewhat blurry middleground, and a blurry background. The image has a f-stop of 5.3. Another technical aspect is that the ISO was 800 to provide the proper lighting and exposure of the photo. This image creates a mysterious mood. It does because the image starts clear and focused in the front and then as the eye follows the pattern of the chess pieces to the back, the pieces get blurrier. To add to the eerie, fading feeling, the image is in black and white and black and white pieces were used.
