Let's Go On A Walk
The subject for my photo essay is a walk down my street with my dog. I took the photographs on my street and in my neighborhood. I selected this place because nature is beautiful to capture. Also, everyday I go on a walk with my dog, Zamm, so I thought I would capture such a daily activity. This is important to me because I love my dog and love spending time with him. Not only do I get to do that on a walk, but I also get to stop and smell the roses. I get to get out, get off my phone, and just look around at how beautiful nature and the world is. The concept I am trying to portray is that a walk may seem like a simple and quick activity, but its more than that. From different view points and angles, the images show how nature really does surround us and its a beautiful thing. People should stop what they're are doing and just go outside for five minutes to really see what a beautiful thing Earth is. The images capture the narrative of my essay by offering different points of view. From looking up, down, and just straight ahead, nature can be observed in varying ways. A tree just isn't a trunk with branches; photo 6 shows how it can look like an intricate web and completely different form a tree being seen from straight on. By showing the tree from an upward angle instead of straight on, the whole subject, the tree, is transformed into something beautiful. Also, the images show life. The balance between lifeless things, like stone, the street, and the telephone pole, contrast but also balance with the life of Zamm, the flowers, the trees, and the shrub. Overall, the images capture the narrative by offering different points of view and contrasting life vs. lifeless to show portray how nature is a wonderful thing that could be observed and enjoyed and appreciated by all. The arrangement of my photos starts with a road to show the beginnings of a walk. Then, Zamm is pictured to show how the walk is with my dog. Next, point of views were contrasted: the pole is at a straight on point of view, then the flowers are low to the ground, then the shrub is straight on, the tree in the sky is very high up, the stone is low to the ground, the next tree is aiming upward, and then Zamm is low again. The photos are arranged by point of view to show how nature is everywhere: up, down, and all around. The sequence also ends with a sunset to show how the walk, and the day, is over. I unified the images by organizing them by contrasting points of view, and also by creating a sequence. While staring on a road wth a dog, the viewer looks up and down to really observe nature. After looking around, they look back down at their dog and decide to head home for the night for the sun is setting. Therefore, I unify the images by creating a story with nature, contrasting life and lifeless things, offering different points of view, but, overall, unifying them throughout the story of a simple walk down a simple street.
